Partitioned Decimals: Cut & Paste

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This activity helps students add together decimal parts using shaded visual models. Designed for studens in year 5 and year 6.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise and partition decimals into tenths and hundredths.
  • Match visual representations to their decimal partitions.
  • Develop an understanding of decimal addition and place value.

How the Activity Works:

Students cut and paste shaded visual representations of decimal numbers and match them to the correct partitioning expressions. For example, a model showing 83 hundredths is matched to the partitioning "8 tenths + 3 hundredths." This hands-on activity supports students in visualising and understanding decimal addition and the composition of decimal numbers.
