How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with decimal numbers and asked to partition them into their whole number and decimal components. For example, with the number 0.54, students break it down into 0.5 + 0.04. They also represent the number on visual models, including a number expander and a shaded grid. These visual representation help students understand how the whole number and decimal parts fit together and reinforces their understanding of decimal place value.
