EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students use a menu with prices in 50-cent increments to add amounts and calculate change. Designed for students in year 3 and year 4.

Learning Objectives:

  • Add prices in 50-cent increments to determine total costs.
  • Calculate the correct payment and change for purchases.
  • Develop problem-solving skills in real-world money scenarios.

How the Activity Works:

Students refer to the menu to complete a range of money-related questions. They add the cost of selected items and determine the total amount. They then calculate the correct change when given a specific payment amount. Example scenarios include: Brendan orders an egg muffin and a tea—how much does his order cost? and Neil orders two puddings and a tea, paying with a $50 note—how much change should he receive? This activity reinforces financial literacy and numeracy skills in a practical and engaging way.
