Representing Multiplication (2)

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A worksheet where students complete missing representations of multiplication, including drawing arrays, writing equations, and showing repeated addition. Designed for students in years 3 and 4.

Learning Objectives:

  • Practise representing multiplication in multiple ways: equations, arrays, and repeated addition.
  • Strengthen understanding of multiplication through different forms of representation.
  • Improve fluency in creating and interpreting multiplication models.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given incomplete multiplication problems with missing representations. They are asked to fill in the missing parts, such as drawing the array, writing the corresponding multiplication equation, and expressing the problem as repeated addition. For example, if given 4x3, students would draw an array of 4 rows with 3 items in each row, write the equation 4x3 = 12, and express it as 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12. This activity helps students reinforce their understanding of multiplication through visual and written representations.
