Represent Multiplication: Repeated Add

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A worksheet designed to help students connect multiplication with repeated addition. Students identify repeated addition in models of multiplication and then write the corresponding multiplication sum. Designed for students in years 2 and 3.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition.
  • Write multiplication equations from visual models of repeated addition.
  • Reinforce multiplication concepts by breaking down problems into groups.

How the Activity Works:

In each model, students are shown groups of objects, and beneath each model, they write the matching repeated addition equation. For example, if there are 5 groups with 3 objects in each group, students would write: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15, followed by the multiplication equation 5 x 3 = 15. This activity helps students recognise how multiplication is a faster way to represent repeated addition.
