In the Castle Grounds: Positional Words
Overview:
A fairy tale themed activity where students use positional words to complete a picture, reinforcing their understanding of terms like above, in front of, behind, etc. Designed for students in year 1 and year 2.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand and apply positional words in relation to objects in a picture.
- Develop spatial awareness by following instructions to position objects correctly.
- Enhance listening and comprehension skills as they follow step-by-step directions.
How the Activity Works:
In this activity, students will be given a fairy tale-themed picture of castle grounds with blank spaces. They will follow the instructions provided, using positional words to place items in the correct locations. For example, they will draw a rain cloud above the castle, a wood pile in front of the hut, or a flag above the castle. As students follow each step, they will practise using positional language to complete the picture. By the end of the activity, students will have a completed scene, which helps them visualise and apply the positional words in a practical context.
