End Time Using Timelines, 1-Min Intervals (1)

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

An activity designed to help students calculate end times by adding elapsed times using number lines. Students will use the number lines to work out the end times in 5-minute intervals (e.g., 9:23). Designed for students in year 5 and year 6.

Learning Objectives:

  • Calculate end times by adding elapsed time to start times using number lines.
  • Understand the relationship between start times and elapsed time in 1-minute intervals.
  • Strengthen time-telling and time calculation skills through visual tools.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given start times and an elapsed time in 1-minute intervals. They use the number lines to add the elapsed time to the start time, marking the intervals along the number line. This helps students visualise and calculate the correct end time. Once they’ve completed the number line, they write the end time. This activity allows students to practise adding elapsed time and enhances their understanding of time calculations.
