EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students identify prime and composite numbers on a hundred board and explain how to distinguish between them. Designed for students in years 5 and 6.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise prime and composite numbers.
  • Colour prime numbers on a hundred board.
  • Colour composite numbers on a hundred board.
  • Explain how to determine if a number is prime or composite.
  • Develop understanding of factors and divisibility.

How the Activity Works:

Students colour prime numbers and composite numbers on hundred boards. As well as colouring the numbers, students write to explain how they can tell whether a number is prime or composite. This activity encourages students to think critically about number properties while reinforcing their understanding of prime and composite numbers.
