Overview:

Students calculate the savings on food items during a sale, applying discounts in increments of 5%. Designed for students in year 6.

Learning Objectives:

Calculate savings based on percentage discounts.
Apply the calculated savings to determine the new price of each item.
Strengthen skills in percentage calculations and real-world financial scenarios.

How the Activity Works:

Students are given a list of food items with their original prices and corresponding discounts, which are in increments of 5% (e.g., 5%, 10%, 15%, etc.). Their task is to calculate the saving on each item and then work out the new sale price by subtracting the savings from the original price. This activity helps students practise percentage calculations in practical contexts.
