Calculate Change: Toy Shop, Dollars & Cents
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
Students calculate how much change shoppers will receive when purchasing single items. Prices are in dollars and cents (to 5c). Designed for year 3 and 4 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Subtract the cost of a single item from the amount given to find the change.
- Practise working with dollars and cents (to 5c).
- Develop problem-solving skills related to money transactions.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with a series of shopping scenarios where a customer purchases a single item. They determine how much change the shopper will receive from a given amount. For example: Lindsey wants to buy a drum. How much change will she receive? This activity reinforces subtraction skills and helps students develop confidence in handling money in real-world situations.
