Overview:

Students use their creativity to invent a new shape, name it, and describe its unique properties. Designed for middle and upper years students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply knowledge of shape properties to design a new shape.
  • Develop critical thinking skills by comparing and contrasting shapes.
  • Practise explaining mathematical concepts in writing.

How the Activity Works:

Students create and draw a new shape, considering its sides, angles, and other features. They then name their shape and describe its properties, including how it differs from existing shapes. This activity encourages creative thinking while reinforcing an understanding of geometric concepts.
