Multiplication as Repeated Add
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
A worksheet designed to help students connect multiplication with repeated addition. Students identify repeated addition in models of multiplication and then write the corresponding multiplication sum. Designed for students in years 2 and 3.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition.
- Write multiplication equations from visual models of repeated addition.
- Reinforce multiplication concepts by breaking down problems into groups.
How the Activity Works:
In each model, students are shown groups of shapes, and beneath each model, they write the matching repeated addition equation. For example, if there are 4 groups with 5 shapes in each group, students would write: 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20, followed by the multiplication equation 4 x 5 = 20. This activity helps students recognise how multiplication is a faster way to represent repeated addition.
