Introducing Fact Families (1)

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This worksheet introduces the concept of fact families to help students understand the relationship between multiplication and division. Designed for students in years 3 and 4.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise and complete fact families.
  • Understand the link between multiplication and division.
  • Strengthen problem-solving skills by using fact families to solve related multiplication and division equations.

How the Activity Works:

Students are provided with fact families, either in the form of a MAD (Multiplication And Division) triangle or as multiplication and division equations. They complete the fact family by writing the missing numbers in each equation. For example, given 5x3=15, students must also complete 3x5=15, 15÷5=3, and 15÷3=5. This activity reinforces the inverse relationship between multiplication and division while helping students strengthen their overall arithmetic skills.
