Estimate Duration & Units

Overview:
This activity helps students estimate the duration of different events and select the most appropriate unit of time for each task. Students practise using their sense of time to make reasonable estimations and learn to associate actions with different time units. Designed for early and middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Estimate the time it takes to complete a range of activities.
- Select the appropriate time unit for different events (seconds, minutes, hours).
- Develop a better understanding of time by comparing and contrasting different activities.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with a variety of events, such as "smelling a rose" or "reading a book." For each event, they will estimate how long it would take and then circle the best estimate from a selection of options (e.g., 3 seconds, 40 seconds, 2 minutes). This activity helps students practise estimating time and connecting actions with realistic time frames, reinforcing their understanding of different time units and how they relate to everyday tasks.
