Reading From a Fraction Wall: Half Family

EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
Students use a fraction wall to identify and write equivalent fractions from the half family. Designed for students in year 3 and year 4.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify equivalent fractions using a fraction wall as a reference.
- Write fractions in both symbolic and word form.
- Develop visual and conceptual understanding of fraction equivalence within the half family.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with a fraction wall showing halves and their equivalent fractions. They work through tasks such as determining what fraction of a shape is shaded and then colouring a second shape to represent an equivalent fraction. For example, if half of the first shape is shaded, they may need to colour two quarters on the second shape. Students write both fractions beneath the visual models. An answer sheet is included to support self-assessment.
