Toy Shop Change, 2 Step, Whole Dollar
EASYTEACHING.NET
Overview:
Students work out the total cost of purchases and calculate how much change will be received. Prices are in whole dollars. Designed for year 2 and 3 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Add up the cost of multiple items to find the total price.
- Calculate the correct change from a given amount.
- Develop problem-solving skills and financial literacy.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with a series of shopping scenarios where they must calculate the total cost of the items being purchased. After adding the prices of the items, they determine how much change the shopper will receive from a given amount. For example: Arnie wants to buy a drum and a slingshot. What is the total cost? How much change will he receive? This activity reinforces addition and subtraction skills, while helping students understand money transactions in a fun and practical way.
