List Events: Certain, Likely, Unlikely, Impossible

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

A probability activity where students write events to match the terms "Certain," "Impossible," "Likely," and "Unlikely." Designed for students in year 2 and year 3.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand and apply probability terms: certain, impossible, likely, and unlikely.
  • Create real-life scenarios to match different probability levels.
  • Develop critical thinking by reasoning about the likelihood of events.

How the Activity Works:

Students are asked to write five events for each of the terms "Certain," "Impossible," "Likely," and "Unlikely." For example, a "Certain" event could be "The sun will rise tomorrow," while an "Impossible" event could be "It will snow in summer." This activity provides a practical and engaging way for students to practise identifying and applying probability concepts using real-world scenarios.
