Naming Fractions

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This worksheet helps students practice naming fractions by writing them in words. Students are provided with visual representations of fractions, such as circles or bars, and are asked to identify and name each fraction in words. Designed for year 3 students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise fractions represented as visual models (fraction circles or bars).
  • Write fractions in words based on their visual representation.
  • Develop an understanding of the relationship between fractions and their written forms.
  • Reinforce the concept of fractions as parts of a whole.

How the Activity Works:

In this activity, students are shown a series of fraction models, either in the form of circles or bars. They are tasked with writing the name of each fraction in words based on what they see. For example, a visual model showing one-half would be written as "one-half." This activity supports students in recognising and accurately naming fractions while also helping to build their confidence in working with fractional representations. Teachers can encourage students to verbalise their reasoning, reinforcing their understanding of fractions and their corresponding names. An answer sheet is included.
