Pizza Fraction Models: Colour

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

This set of large colour pizza fraction models features pizzas that can be cut into various fractions such as eighths, quarters, halves, thirds, and sixths. These models are designed to be used for hands-on fraction activities, allowing students to physically manipulate and explore fraction concepts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and model fractions using visual models such as pizzas.
  • Develop an understanding of equivalent fractions and how fractions of a whole relate to each other.
  • Practise dividing a whole into equal parts and recognising the fractional relationships.
  • Reinforce the concept of fractions as parts of a whole in a practical context.

How the Activity Works:

Students can use these pizza models to explore fractions by physically cutting or arranging portions of the pizzas to match specific fractions (e.g., one-half, one-quarter). The pizzas can also be used to compare and contrast different fractions by asking students to identify which fraction is larger or smaller. Teachers can create activities where students match fraction symbols with their corresponding pizza sections or work on creating equivalent fractions using the pizza models. These models are also helpful for introducing the concept of fraction addition or subtraction of fractions, as well as improper fractions and mixed numbers. With these large pizza models, students have a hands-on and engaging way to visually understand fractions in relation to a whole. Laminate for a long-lasting resource.
