Fractions of Collections: Naming
Overview:
This worksheet helps students name fractions shown by visual models of collections, both in symbols and words. Students are given a fraction model and are tasked with writing the fraction in its symbolic and verbal form. Designed for year 3 and 4 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and name fractions from visual models of collections.
- Express fractions both in symbols and words.
- Strengthen the understanding of fractions by connecting visual representations with their symbolic and written forms.
How the Activity Works:
In this activity, students are presented with visual models depicting fractions of collections. They are asked to identify the fraction shown and write it in both symbolic form (e.g., 3/4) and in words (e.g., three-fourths). This activity encourages students to make connections between different representations of fractions and helps to deepen their understanding of how fractions are used to describe parts of a whole or a set. By working through these examples, students reinforce their fraction naming skills and learn to translate between visual models, symbols, and words.
