Represent Fractions as Models, Symbols & Words
Overview:
This worksheet helps students name and represent fractions using visual models, symbols, and words. Students complete a table by filling in the appropriate representations for each fraction. Designed for year 3 and 4 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and name fractions in different forms: visual models, symbols, and words.
- Strengthen understanding of fractions by representing them in multiple ways.
- Develop the ability to connect fractional concepts across visual, symbolic, and verbal formats.
How the Activity Works:
In this activity, students are presented with a series of fractions and are asked to complete a table that includes three columns: visual model, symbol, and words. For each fraction, students draw the corresponding visual model (e.g., a fraction circle or bar), write the fraction symbol (e.g., 1/2), and represent it in words (e.g., one-half). This activity promotes a deeper understanding of fractions by reinforcing how fractions are expressed in various formats. It also encourages students to make connections between the visual and symbolic representations of fractions.
