Fractions Match Puzzle
Overview:
This monster-themed puzzle activity challenges students to match different representations of fractions, including visual models, words, and symbols. Designed for year 3 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognise and match fraction symbols with their corresponding visual models and written names.
- Reinforce the understanding of fractions through interactive matching.
- Develop an awareness of the different ways fractions can be represented (visual, symbolic, and in words).
- Enhance fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities through the cut-and-paste puzzle format.
How the Activity Works:
Students are given four individual monster-themed fraction puzzles, each containing different visual representations of fractions (such as fraction bars, circles, or models) along with their symbolic and word forms. Students cut out the pieces and paste them to match the fraction symbol, the word form, and the visual model correctly. This puzzle format encourages active learning and reinforces fraction concepts in a hands-on way. Teachers can support students by discussing the different representations of fractions as they work through each puzzle.
