Estimating 1kg
Overview:
Students estimate whether the weight of various objects is less than, equal to, or greater than 1 kilogram. This activity enhances estimation skills and supports understanding of relative weights in the context of everyday items. Designed for year 3 and 4 students.
Learning Objectives:
- Estimate whether an object’s weight is less than, equal to, or greater than 1 kilogram.
- Develop an understanding of relative weight comparisons.
- Strengthen critical thinking and estimation skills.
How the Activity Works:
Students are presented with a list of objects, such as a spider, and asked to estimate whether their weight is less than, equal to, or greater than 1 kilogram. For example, students might estimate that a spider weighs less than 1kg. They will then circle the appropriate option: less than 1kg, approximately 1kg, or more than 1kg. This activity encourages students to make informed guesses based on their knowledge of the world around them.
