Using Balance Scales
Overview:
An activity where students use balance scales to compare the weight of pairs of objects and record their findings. Designed for early and middle years students.
Learning Objectives:
- Compare the weight of pairs of objects using balance scales.
- Understand the concept of heavier and lighter objects.
- Develop skills in drawing and recording results to show weight differences.
How the Activity Works:
Students use balance scales to compare pairs of objects and draw them on the scales to show which is heavier and which is lighter. After comparing the objects, students record the results on a sheet. Finally, they identify which object is the heaviest of all, explaining their reasoning and drawing the scales to match their findings. This activity is a practical and engaging way for students to practise using balance scales and develop a deeper understanding of weight comparison.
