Read Analogue Scales: Grams & Kilograms

EASYTEACHING.NET

Overview:

Students read analogue scales and record the weight shown in both grams and kilograms, using three different formats. For example, 1kg 600g = 1.6kg = 1600g. This activity supports understanding of weight measurement in metric units. Designed for middle and upper primary students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Read and interpret analogue scales displaying weight in both grams and kilograms.
  • Convert between grams and kilograms and express weight in multiple formats.
  • Record weight measurements accurately in three different ways: __kg __g, ____kg, and ___g.

How the Activity Works:

Students are presented with several analogue scales showing different weights in grams and kilograms. For each scale, they record the weight in three different ways. For example, a weight of 1kg 600g should be recorded as 1kg 600g, 1.6kg, and 1600g. This practice reinforces the relationship between grams and kilograms, improving both conversion and recording skills.
